DATA BREACH!!!!!

Writer's picture: Richard JohnsonRichard Johnson

So lets start with what is the meaning of breach

“An act of breaking or failing to observe a law, agreement, or code of conduct”. But the breach we are talking about is Security Breach or Data Breach
“A data breach is the intentional or unintentional release of secure or private/confidential information to an untrusted environment. Other terms for this phenomenon include unintentional information disclosure, data leak, information leakage and also data spill”.

As we are living in social world everybody is scared or not their personal social accounts are safe or not it all depends upon the secrets one is hiding. But in general when you want to know about a person you can check their social account and you can know what they do what they eat, birthdays etc. Because in internet you can be however you want it gives freedom to a user to be whoever they want according to a heart’s desire so one should be careful to whom are they talking and sharing.

So as the blog title says you should be worried or not ?

NO, because all the users' passwords are stored in hashes and what are hashing is the transformation of a string of characters into a usually shorter fixed-length value or key that represents the original string.

WHY HASHING ?

Hashing is used to index and retrieve items in a database because it is faster to find the item using the shorter hashed key than to find it using the original value.

So unless your password is password or 123 you don’t need to care and twitter doesn’t allow you to put such easy passwords but still if you don’t want to take risk then you are free to change your passwords other than no need to worry. According to the article which was released in May 3 2018 it was stated that due to a bug in twitter it stored the passwords of the users in a plain-text but the good news is that nobody was affected due to this bug and not a single breach was reported and it was fixed. But what happened on December 23 2019 might have been affected to millions of twitter users. According to the news there was a security flaw in its android application it allowed the attackers to gain access to the twitter account of the victim. According to the news it only affected the android users if you are a iPhone user remain unaffected by the flaw. But the good news news is that twitter immediately took steps to fix the flaw and emailed those users who might have been affected to the flaw and patch has been out on the play store you just need to update your app and it will be fixed. But it was a major flaw for an attacker because it allowed to insert malicious code in the app.

A VPN connection can protect you from risks posed by hackers and other unscrupulous third parties, as well as third parties attempting to monitor your online behavior. VPNs are quite effective at keeping people from intercepting network traffic and collecting your personal information. must change the behavior and use VPN in your PC in other devices too.
